Christopher "Chris" Michael Mattei (born 25 May 1978) is a trial lawyer and former Chief of the Financial Fraud and Public Corruption unit for the United States Attorney's Office in the District of Connecticut.

On April 19, 2017, Mattei announced that he was forming an exploratory committee to consider a run for Governor of Connecticut.

Early life

Mattei was born and raised in Windsor, Connecticut. He currently resides in Hartford with his wife, Joy, and their three young sons.

Education

Mattei received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, graduating magna cum laude in 2000. He earned a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2005.

Career

After passing the bar in 2005, Mattei served as a clerk for United States District Judge Alvin W. Thompson. Mattei was appointed Assistant United States Attorney for the State of Connecticut in 2007, where he supervised the effort to prosecute broker-dealers who committed fraudulent trading in the aftermath of the 2008 recession.

In 2014, Mattei served on the prosecution team during the trial of former Connecticut Governor John G. Rowland. That same year, he was appointed Chief of the Financial Fraud and Public Corruption unit in the District of Connecticut. In 2015 Mattei was appointed Director of the Connecticut Public Corruption Task Force comprising investigators from the FBI, IRS, and the Inspector General Offices of the U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services and Housing and Urban Development. Mattei is currently an attorney with the Connecticut-based firm Koskoff, Koskoff and Bieder.

Prior to attending law school, Mattei worked as a high school teacher on a Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona.
